Having an understanding of batteries and charging systems, this looks more of a failure of the battery than the charger. A charger left overnight even on high rate charge should not cause this type of damage. A more reasonable suspect would be a defective shorted cell in the battery. I have seen this fault many times and it is almost always not the charger.
They have made an assumption that it was the charger because the high rate charge light was on. A faulty battery whit a bad cell can fool the charger as the battery never reaches the 80% charge level that the battery needs to cut back the current to maintenance charge level. This can happen with any charger. I’ve seen it happen in a car. If thermal protect could prevent this, which I doubt , it would have been incorporated into lead acid designs a long time ago.

Ya. No mention of what charger was being employed.
EVTAmerica touts that all their product is supplied w/a Soneil charger. Was it a Soneil they were using in this instance? Regardless, was the charger tested after the fact (or before) to confirm it was operating to spec?
    tks
